Vittoria, a story worth cultivating
PASSAPORTO 757 · VITTORIA
Among Liberty palaces, lively squares and Cerasuolo vineyards, the journey following Messina meets another soul of Sicily.
On Sunday 11 October, ACR Messina’s path takes us to Vittoria, in the province of Ragusa. A new stage of Passaporto 757, the project that turns away trips into opportunities to discover our island and the communities that live there.
Here the story begins with the land, crosses the streets of the centre and reaches the sea at Scoglitti. It is a story of work, culture and belonging, to be discovered by looking at a façade, stepping into a square and listening to the people who live these places every day.
We bring our red-and-yellow colours with us, and the curiosity to meet a Sicily that still has so much to tell.
Beyond the 90 minutes
Before kick-off, there is a city to meet
Following Messina also means crossing landscapes, meeting people and coming home with something more than the result.
In Vittoria we can start from Piazza del Popolo, where the Teatro Vittoria Colonna and the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie form one of the most recognisable views of the city. Then continue through the streets of the centre, guided by the details of Liberty architecture and the presence of the Basilica of San Giovanni Battista.
This is why Passaporto 757 exists: to give space to everything surrounding the match and turn every stage into a meeting between territories.
The city’s history
A city born from an idea of the future
Vittoria was founded in 1607 on the initiative of Countess Vittoria Colonna, after whom it is named. Its foundation is tied to the wish to populate and develop part of the County of Modica, giving shape to a new town and new opportunities.
The land and the cultivation of the vine accompanied the city’s growth. Over time, trade, farming and a cultural life joined this vocation, leaving traces in its palaces, churches and public spaces.
Walking through Vittoria means meeting these different seasons: the memory of its foundation, Baroque forms, the balance of the neoclassical theatre and the details of Liberty style.
A city to be read in its places, but also in the relationship between people and the land.
Identity in three symbols
The Teatro Vittoria Colonna — Culture becomes a square
Overlooking Piazza del Popolo, the Teatro Vittoria Colonna is one of the city’s landmarks. Opened in 1877, it bears the founder’s name and expresses the value placed on culture as a shared experience.
There is also a link with Messina: Pasquale Subba designed the theatre’s curtain and stage sets. A meeting between our cities that comes before the one on the pitch, and brings this stage even closer.
Liberty style — Beauty in the details
In Vittoria it is worth walking with your eyes turned upwards. Façades, balconies and decorations tell of the spread of Liberty style, especially recognisable along Via Cavour and other streets of the centre.
It is a beauty you meet while strolling: in the details of the buildings, in the lines of the façades, in the way architecture accompanies everyday life.
Cerasuolo di Vittoria — A land that leaves its mark
Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG is born from the meeting of Nero d’Avola and Frappato. Its name carries that of the city and a winemaking tradition deeply tied to this land.
Behind this identity are vineyards, skills and generations of producers. A heritage that tells the story of Sicily through work and the ability to give value to its roots.
Flavours and territory
From the land to the sea, the taste of discovering Vittoria
Vittoria’s identity also runs through its farming vocation. The fruit and vegetable market tells of the bond between production, trade and local life: a world made of people, seasons and daily work.
Alongside it is the seafaring soul of Scoglitti, Vittoria’s coastal district, with its harbour and seascape.
They are two perspectives on the same stage: inland and coast, countryside and fishing. Getting to know them means approaching these places through the products and people that represent them.
The meaning of the journey
Different colours, one Sicily to share
On the pitch, everyone supports their own colours. Around the pitch, we can build knowledge, respect and relationships.
This is the spirit in which 757club accompanies ACR Messina’s journey: meeting the communities that host us, recognising their value and giving visibility to the stories and excellence of our island.
Vittoria adds a new page to our passport. We write it with our passion for Messina and the desire to discover what every away trip can leave us.
Messina sets us on the road. Sicily gives us a story to bring home.
